One of the most crucial parts of cracking the UPSC examinations is probably solving the current affairs part. Candidates often have a tough time studying and memorising all the general knowledge and current affairs questions.

It is tough to retain all of them during examinations with so many happenings around the world daily. So here are some ways one can follow to prepare for the current affairs in UPSC and civil service examinations.

• Read newspapers daily: reading news or watching news channels increases the knowledge on daily occurrences around the nation and globe. This helps the candidates note down daily
affairs and add up to their studies without giving extra effort on memorisation.

• Follow article page on different newspapers: reading news articles keep a daily practice of
going through general knowledge notes and keep a student updated daily. Reading helps
articulate the writing pattern of student’s during examination as well.

• Prepare your own chart: keep a diary of notes on daily affairs. Make sections like sports,
schemes, cinema etc. and make daily entries of your data. Revise once a week and save time
from memorising like a parrot.

• Revise daily: write, speak in front the mirror and talk about whatever you have read for a
day to a sibling or a friend, this will help in exercising the mind and remembering everything
effortlessly.

• Practice online quizzes: various websites and apps available nowadays conduct quizzes and
games based on current affairs and general knowledge at various levels. Take one or two
quizzes every day and this would help in effortless practice and revising on a daily basis. This would be fun and one can also self-evaluate his performance on a regular basis.

• Follow daily blogs on current affairs: various blogs and websites on the internet provide free
access to materials on current affairs and general knowledge for various entrance exams.
Follow or sign up to such pages and check it daily once in your free time.

• Keep a thorough check on government portals and websites: updates on schemes, plans and
awards by the government are continuously being updated on their sites and are authentic
to the core, so a candidate should always keep a check on them.

• Increase interaction on social media: news on social media platforms spread like forest fire
and sometimes faster updated than news channels. Increasing genuine contacts on such
platforms can help keep daily updates on whatever is happening around. But one needs to
be very careful about the authenticity of the news, it’s better to double check before noting
